This is the wording in the Amarillo Globe Newspaper. Picture wouldn’t copy over! W.C. "Coach" Splawn, 91, formerly of Amarillo, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Fayetteville, Ga. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Maverick Boys and Girls Club with J.H. Ledbetter and James "Coach" Kile officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Coach Splawn was an adviser and scoutmaster for several years. He received the Life Scout Award in 1945 and became an Eagle Scout in 1946. He was actively involved with the Maverick Club since 1955. He coached football and had several winning teams. Coach was a letter carrier in the downtown business district until he retired in 1972. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Loriece Splawn in 1981. Survivors include two sons, Larry Splawn of Watagua and Dan Splawn of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Nicki Jo Baca of Fayetteville, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Maverick Boys and Girls Club, 1923 S. Lincoln St., Amarillo, TX 79109. The family will be at 3703 Lynette Drive. E-mail me:
